Calendar
The Calendar is the second view of the Schedule. It shows the same tasks as the list (with the same search and filters), laid out by day. Bind your calendar and its events sit beside your tasks: you can see where your free hours are, drag a task into one, and create or change events without leaving Lino.
Switch to the Calendar
In the Schedule, click the List button under the search field and choose Calendar. Click it again and choose List to go back. Lino remembers which view you used last.
Choose what you see
Click View to pick a range:
| Option | Key | Shows |
|---|---|---|
| Day | 1 or D | One day |
| Number of days → 2–9 days | 2–9 | That many days, starting from the first shown |
| Week | 0 or W | A whole week |
| Month | M | Whole weeks of the month, each day's items in its cell |
When the panel is narrower than 640 px, only Day and up to 3 days are offered. Widen or maximize the panel for Week and Month.
Move around with the buttons at the top of the calendar, or with the keys while the calendar has focus:
- Today (
T) jumps to today and lights it up for a moment. - Back (
←) and Forward (→) move one page: a day, a few days, a week or a month. - Go to date (calendar icon) opens a date picker. Pick a day to jump to it.
- In Month view, click a day's number to open its week.
The pill under the calendar counts the tasks and events in the range you're looking at.
Tasks on the calendar
- A task with a date and time is a point at that time. A task with only a date is in the all-day row at the top (in Month view, in the day's cell).
- Click a task to see its row as the list shows it: tick it, change its people or date, or open More.
- Drag a task to another day or time to change its due date.
⌘Zundoes the move. - Right-click a task for Copy and Delete.
Tasks without a date don't appear on the calendar. Add new tasks with + New → New task, as in the list.
Bind a calendar
Binding brings your calendar's events into the Schedule. Click the Bind with pill at the bottom of the Schedule, then Bind an account…. (Lino may also offer this by itself; choose Don't remind me if you don't want it.) The dialog Bind your calendar offers:
- Continue with iCloud: read and change your iCloud calendars.
- Use this Mac's calendars: every calendar your Mac's Calendar app shows (iCloud, Google, Exchange…), View only.
- Continue with Google and Continue with Outlook are marked Soon.
Bind iCloud
Apple requires an app-specific password so that Lino can reach your iCloud calendars.
- Click Continue with iCloud.
- Follow the two steps shown: sign in to your Apple Account, open App-Specific Passwords, and make a new one named "Lino". Then click I have my password.
- Enter your Apple Account email or phone number and the app-specific password, and click Bind iCloud.
Lino keeps the password with your Lino account, encrypted, so you bind once and every device you sign in on has it. You can revoke the password on Apple's site at any time. You can bind more than one iCloud account.
If Apple refuses the password later, a warning icon appears next to that account in the calendars menu: click it to bind again.
The calendars menu
Once bound, the pill reads Bound with how many calendars are shown (for example "4/6"). Click it to:
- Tick calendars on and off to show or hide their events.
- Hover a calendar you can change and click the flag (Make default for new events) to choose where new events go.
- Remove an account with its unbind button.
- Bind another account…, or Add account in macOS… to add an account to the Mac's own calendars.
Events
Events appear in their calendar's colour: a timed event as a block from its start to its end, an all-day event in the all-day row. Click an event to open its card.
What you can change
You can change events in a bound iCloud calendar that you own. Events read through this Mac's calendars are read-only in Lino, and so are invitations from other people. Their card says so and offers Open in Calendar.
Create an event
- Double-click an empty spot in the hours to make a half-hour event there, or drag across the hours to make one as long as you drag.
- In the all-day row or a Month cell, double-click or drag across days to make an all-day event.
- Or click + New → New event to make one starting now.
The event card opens. Give it a title, adjust the details and click Create. Times snap to quarter hours. New event is greyed out with "Bind a calendar first" when nothing is bound, and says so when no calendar can be changed.
Edit an event
Open the event's card and change any of:
- Title, All-day, start and end
- Time zone of the event
- Repeat (or Don't repeat)
- Add location, Add link, Add notes
- Calendar (move it to another calendar of the same account)
- Availability (Busy / Free)
- Reminders (or No reminder)
On the calendar itself you can also:
- Drag an event to another day or time.
- Drag its bottom edge to make it end earlier or later.
- Shift-click or ⌘-click several events to select them, then drag them together.
When you change or delete one occurrence of a repeating event, Lino asks whether to change only this event or all future events.
Event menu and keys
Right-click an event (or use More on its open card) for:
| Action | Key |
|---|---|
| Open in panel | |
| Cut | ⌘X |
| Copy | ⌘C |
| Duplicate | ⌘D |
| Delete | ⌫ |
Paste with ⌘V: the copied event lands where the pointer is. Copied events are also plain text you can paste into any app.
Open in panel opens the event's card in the Schedule tab itself, with a tab and Close event in the header. ⌘W closes it.
Reply to invitations
For an invitation sent to your bound iCloud account, the event card shows Yes, No and Maybe. Your answer is sent to the organizer. The guest list shows who's Going, Not going, Maybe or Awaiting.
Time zones
In Day, days and Week views, the current time is a line across today with a pill in the hours' margin.
- Hover the pill to see which time zone it shows.
- Click it to pick another zone. The pill then shows that zone's time; the line stays where now is.
- Drag the pill up or down to pull out a second, fainter line. Its pill tells you what the clock reads in the chosen zone at that hour, handy for planning a call. Double-click it, or drop it back on now, to remove it.
Tips
- While your calendars are still loading, the calendar shimmers, and so does an event whose colour is not known yet.
- Want to see free time while planning your day? Keep the Schedule in Day view next to the Canvas, and drag tasks into the gaps.
