Artifacts Gallery
The Artifacts Gallery is the library of everything you've made in Lino — every Card, Image, Link, Sketch, Chart, Table and Spark, whether or not it is on a Canvas. Canvases show Artifacts; the Gallery keeps them. Removing something from a Canvas never removes it from here.
Open it in the Right Panel with ⌘⇧G, or choose Artifacts Gallery in an empty Right Panel.
Find something
- Search — type in the field at the top ("Search Cards...", "Search Images..."). Lino searches names, text, and the words inside pictures. Hover a result to see where your words appear in it.
- Type strip — All, Card, Image, Link, Sketch, Table, Spark.
- Back / Forward — step through what you've searched and opened, like a browser.
- Filter (the icon in the search field; its tooltip names the current filter):
| Filter | Shows |
|---|---|
| All | Everything of this type. |
| Concept / Plain | Card tab only: Concept Cards or Plain Cards. |
| In this Canvas | Only what's on the Canvas you're looking at. |
| Unused | Artifacts that aren't on any Canvas (for Images and Links: not used in any Card either). |
| Deleted | Desktop app: what you deleted in the last 30 days. |
- Larger tiles / Smaller tiles switches between two tile sizes.
Tiles are sorted newest first and grouped by when they were last changed: Today, Yesterday, This week, Last week, This month, then by month.
Use what you find
| To… | Do this |
|---|---|
| Put it on the Canvas | Drag the tile onto the Canvas ("Drag to Canvas"). |
| Open it | Double-click the tile. Cards, Images, Sketches and Tables open in the Gallery itself; a Link opens in the Browser. Or right-click → Open in Right Panel. |
| See where it's used | Hover the number on the tile: it lists the Canvases (and for Images and Links, the Cards) that use it. Click one to jump there. |
| Everything else | Right-click the tile. |
When an Artifact is open, a tab with its name sits next to the search field. Its toolbar shows that Artifact's own tools and a More menu; Add to Canvas (or Show in Canvas when it's already there) and Close are at the far right. Close the tab to get back to the list you were browsing.
Write in a Card here
On the Canvas a Card is a small note. When you want to write at length, open it in the Right Panel. You get a document-style editor: the Card's Properties at the top, the text in a readable column below, and tools for finding text, seeing the structure, and reading comments. It is the same Card, so every change shows on the Canvas right away.
Open a Card in the panel
- On the Canvas, hover the Card and click Open in Right Panel in its header.
- In the Artifacts Gallery, double-click the Card.
- In the Schedule, hover a Card's row and click Open in Right Panel.
The Card opens in the Artifacts tab, as a tab next to the search field with the Card's name. Click its × (or press ⌘W) to go back to the Gallery list. For more room, click Maximize to let the panel fill the window.
What you see
- Properties sit in a box at the top: the Concept, Aliases, dates and any Properties you've added. You can edit them here just as on the Canvas. See Properties.
- The text below is the normal Card editor, in a column up to 720 px wide. Everything from the editor works here.
- Word count: a pill at the bottom left shows the number of characters and words, for example "1,204 chars · 213 words".
Tools in the tab
The Card's tab has these buttons. If the panel is narrow, the ones that don't fit move into More.
Search & Replace
Click Search & Replace to find text in this Card.
- Type in Search.... Matches are highlighted and counted.
- Use Previous match and Next match to step through them.
- To change text, type the new words in Replace with..., then click Replace for the current match or Replace All for every match.
- Click Close when you are done. Pin panel keeps the search box open.
Outline
Outline lists the Card's headings, indented by level, so you can see its structure at a glance. The button only appears when the Card has headings.
- Detail Mode also shows a short line for the paragraphs, Tables, Images and code under each heading. Click it again for Brief Mode, headings only.
- Hide puts the Outline away.
Comments
Comments shows the comment threads on this Card's text. If there are none yet, it says "No comments yet".
Where Outline and Comments appear
- When the panel is wide (for example maximized), Outline sits in the left margin and Comments in the right margin, next to the text. They open by themselves.
- When the panel is narrow, there is no margin. They float over the text when you open them, and clicking the text closes them.
More card actions
More always holds the actions the Canvas and the Gallery offer for a Card:
- Copy as a reference
- Copy as Markdown and Export as Markdown
- View history: earlier versions of the Card
- Hide from AI
- Delete
Next to More, at the far right of the tab, are Add to Canvas (place the Card on the current Canvas) and × (close the Card).
Tips
- The Card stays live on the Canvas. You can keep the Canvas beside the panel and watch your edits appear there.
- To read a Card while you work on something else, open it in the panel and switch to another Canvas. The panel stays as it is.
The tile menu
Right-click a tile for the same actions the Canvas menu has: Open in Right Panel, Hide from AI, Copy as a reference, the type's own copy and export actions (Copy URL, Open in default browser, Copy as Markdown, Export as Markdown, Copy as PNG, Download, Export as MD + CSV), Caption with AI, Modify with AI / Remix with AI, View history, and Delete. See Working with Objects.
Select several
Hover a tile and tick its checkbox, or use the checkbox beside a time heading ("Select all in Today"). Right-click to act on all of them — for example Export 3 Cards, Download 4 Images, Caption 4 with AI, Hide all from AI or Delete 5 selected. With different types selected, you get the actions they all share.
Clean up
The pills at the bottom count what you're looking at (Count) and offer quick cleanups:
- Unused: N — deletes every unused Artifact of this type.
- Empty: N — on Cards and Sketches, deletes the empty ones.
Hover a pill to see exactly what it will delete. Each cleanup is one ⌘Z step.
Bring back something you deleted
On the desktop app, choose the Deleted filter. Hover a tile to see how long until it is removed for good. Drag one onto a Canvas to put it back. Right after a delete, ⌘Z works too.
Remove vs. Delete
- Remove takes an object off one Canvas. The Artifact stays here.
- Delete removes the Artifact itself, from every Canvas.
