Lino AI

Lino AI is the agent that lives inside Lino. It can read what is on your Canvases, find things in your Artifacts Gallery, write Cards, draw Connections, build Tables, Charts and Sparks, look things up on the web, and — when you give it a folder — work with files and run commands on your computer. What it changes in your work shows up in a review in the chat, where you can undo it.

Two ways in

• The AI button — the monkey in the bottom-right corner of every Canvas. Click it to open the AI panel; click it again to close it. Hovering it asks Chat about this canvas?

  

• The Start page — press ⌘T anywhere (or File → New Tab). It opens a fresh chat in the middle of the screen, with your recent work and what is coming up today underneath. See Start page.

Both are the same assistant and the same chat: a conversation started on the Start page carries on in the corner panel when you close the page.

A first example

Say you are on a Canvas about photosynthesis and you type:

Make Cards for the light reactions and the Calvin cycle, and connect them to my Photosynthesis Card.

Lino AI reads the Canvas, finds your Photosynthesis Card, and creates two new Cards. They appear in your Inbox Stack (bottom-left), not scattered over the Canvas — you drag them where you want. The two new Connections ("part of") are drawn right away. Under the reply, a review card lists what it did, with Undo if you don't want it. See Changes, review & undo.

What it knows when you ask

Every message carries a little context automatically, and you can add more:

• Where you are — the current Canvas (its name, path and Canvas memory). The Canvas chip in the composer shows this; click it to include it if it is not already.
• What you point at — objects you select or click on the Canvas while the panel is open, text you highlight in a Card, Artifacts you mention with @, files and folders you attach.
• What it remembers — the Canvas memory and your saved memories. See Memory.
• What it looks up — it can read any Canvas or Artifact on its own when it needs to, search the web, and read files in folders you gave it. See What Lino AI can do.

Anything you mark Hide from AI is left out of all of this. See Privacy & what is sent.

How much it does on its own

The mode button under the composer decides what Lino AI may do without asking: Auto (the default), Manual or Accept edits. In every mode, new things it makes land right away and edits to your own work can be undone from the review. See Modes & permissions.
