Tables in the Schedule

Your Schedule (Right Panel, ⌘⇧D) can show the rows of your Tables as to-dos with due dates. A homework tracker, a reading list with deadlines, a project task list — each row becomes an item on its date, ticked off when it's done.

Example: a "Homework" Table has Task (Text), Due (Date) and Done (Checkbox). Every row with a Due date appears in the Schedule on that day; ticking Done in the Table marks it complete.

What a Table needs

A Table can be in the Schedule when it has:

  • a Date column — when each row is due, and
  • a Checkbox or Status column — whether each row is done.

Joining automatically

When you edit a Table so that it has both kinds of column, it joins the Schedule on its own, using the first Date column and the first Checkbox or Status column. A notice tells you: "“Homework” is in the Schedule now", with Settings to choose other columns and Leave out to keep it out.

Schedule settings

Open a Table's Schedule settings:

  • on the Canvas: the gear in the Table's header (View settings) → Schedule;
  • in the Right Panel: Schedule on the Table's toolbar (it shows On, Off or Needs a column);
  • in the Schedule itself: the Schedule settings button next to the Table's name.
SettingWhat it means
Show in ScheduleOn or off for this Table. If it can't be on, it says "Needs a date column and a checkbox or status column."
DateWhich Date column gives each row's day.
DoneWhich Checkbox or Status column says a row is finished.
Counts as doneFor a Status column: which options count as done.
TitleWhich Text column names each item.
PersonWhich Person column says who it's for (or none).
PreviewHow many items are open and overdue, e.g. "4 open · 1 overdue".

Changes save immediately — there is no Save button — and ⌘Z undoes them. If you delete a column the Schedule was using, the setting shows Needs a column until you pick another.

Good to know

  • A Status column's Complete group can't be deleted, because the Schedule relies on it.
  • With Show in Schedule off, the Table stays out even if it has the right columns.
