Canvas Memory

Each Canvas has its own memory: what the Canvas is for, how far the work has got, and rules for working on it. Lino AI reads it at the start of every message on that Canvas, and keeps it up to date as you work.

Open it

Hover the Canvas in the left sidebar and click the brain icon (Canvas Memory). The panel opens with the title Memory for followed by the Canvas name.

The four sections

SectionWhat it holdsExample
OverviewWhat this Canvas is about. One paragraph."Research for my thesis on urban heat islands."
ProgressWhat's done and what's next. A list of entries."Literature review done; next: collect temperature data."
Instructions & NotesHow the AI should behave here: preferences, constraints, things to keep in mind."Cite local studies. Write in British English."
Context ArtifactsImportant references the AI should always know about.Your "Research question" Card.

When you make a nested Canvas from the New nested Canvas panel, what you write in What's this Canvas for? (optional) becomes its Overview. Click an entry to edit it; use + on a section to add one. Lino AI updates Overview and Progress as the work moves, adds to Instructions & Notes when you tell it a rule for this Canvas, and can rename a Canvas that is still called "Untitled" once its purpose is clear.
