Schedule

The Schedule is the Schedule tab of the Right Panel (⌘⇧D). It gathers every to-do you have written anywhere in Lino (checklist items in Cards and rows in Tables) and sorts them by when they are due. You tick things off, change dates and people right there, and Lino reminds you when something is due. If you bind a calendar, today's events appear at the top and the Calendar view shows tasks and events side by side.

Where tasks come from

You never add a task "to the Schedule" itself. Each task lives in a Card or a Table, and the Schedule shows it:

  • Checklist items in Cards. Any checklist item in any Card is a task. Put a date chip in the item to give it a due date (and time), and a person chip to say who it is for. See To-dos & Tasks.
  • Rows in Tables. A Table joins the Schedule when it has a date column plus a checkbox or status column. Each row is a task: the date column is when it's due, the checkbox or status says whether it's done. See Tables in the Schedule below.

Example: a Card "Launch week" has the checklist item "Send newsletter · Tue 10:00 · Me". It appears in the Schedule under Tuesday's group, below the heading "Launch week", with your avatar and "10:00". Tick it in the Schedule and it's ticked in the Card too.

Add a task

  1. Click + New at the bottom right of the Schedule and choose New task.
  2. Type the task in Task name — Enter to add.
  3. Optionally click Add date to pick a date (and time), and Add person to choose who it is for.
  4. Press Enter or click Add. The panel stays open for the next task; press Escape or click Close when you're done.

The line Will be added into: shows where the task goes: a checklist in a Card on today's Canvas in Daily Drafts. You can move it to another Card later like any checklist item.

Shortcut: hover a group heading such as Today, Tomorrow or No Date and click + (New task in Today). The new task starts with that group's date, or that person when you group by person.

Read the list

Tasks are grouped by when they are due:

GroupWhat's in it
This chatTasks in the plans (Cards or Tables) that the Lino AI chat you have open is working on. Only shown when that chat has made a plan. See Planning & tasks.
OverdueDue before today and not done.
Today / TomorrowDue today / tomorrow.
LaterDue after tomorrow.
No DateTasks without a date.

Inside each group, tasks sit under the Card or Table they come from. Click a group heading or a Card / Table row to fold it. A sub-task (an indented checklist item) shows its parent task in small text above it.

Each task row

  • Done control on the left. For a Card's item or a checkbox Table it is a checkbox: click to tick it. For a status Table it is a ring that fills as the status moves from to-do to in progress to complete; click it to choose a status.
  • People on the right, as avatars. Click to change who it's for. On a row with nobody, an Add person button appears on hover.
  • Date chip, shown in the theme's darker colour when overdue. Click to change the date or time. On a row without a date, Add date appears on hover.
  • More (⋮, on hover), or right-click the row: Copy copies the task's text and due date; Delete deletes it.

Deleting a task deletes the checklist item from its Card, or the whole row from its Table. If a checklist item has sub-tasks, Lino asks first. ⌘Z brings it back.

A Card or Table row

Hover the heading row of a Card or Table to see:

  • Open in Right Panel: opens the Card or Table in the Artifacts tab.
  • Schedule settings (Tables only): see below.
  • Pin to top: keeps this Card or Table at the top of its group. Click Unpin to undo.

When not hovered, the row shows how many tasks it has. Hovering it also shows a preview of the Card or Table.

Today's events

If you have bound a calendar, a Today's events section at the top lists what is still left of today (up to three, then "+N more"). An event happening now says Now. Click it to open the Calendar on today.

Search, filter, group and sort

The header and the row under it hold the controls:

  • Search tasks... finds tasks by their words. The count at the bottom becomes "Search Result: N".
  • Only the current canvas (Canvas icon) shows only tasks from Cards and Tables on the Canvas you have open. Click again (Show all canvases) to see everything.
  • Show done / Hide done shows or hides finished tasks.
  • List / Calendar switches the view. See Calendar.
  • Group: Date (the groups above) or Person (one group per person, then No one).
  • Sort orders the Cards and Tables inside each group: Nearest due, Name or Last edited.
  • People shows only the tasks of the people you tick. No one means tasks with nobody on them.

The pill at the bottom left counts what's shown, for example "Tasks: 6 · Events: 2".

Tables in the Schedule

A Table joins the Schedule on its own as soon as it has a date column and a checkbox or status column. A row counts as done when its checkbox is ticked, or when its status is in the Complete group.

The first time you edit a Table so that it qualifies, a notice says "“Tickets” is in the Schedule now" and which columns it uses. Click Settings to change the columns, or Leave out to keep the Table out of the Schedule.

To choose exactly how a Table appears, open Schedule settings: from the Table's toolbar (Schedule) or the ⚙ menu on the Canvas, or from the Table's heading row in the Schedule.

  • Show in Schedule: turns the Table on or off. It is greyed out if the Table lacks a date column or a checkbox / status column, and says what's missing.
  • Date: the column that holds the due date.
  • Done: the checkbox or status column that says a row is finished.
  • Counts as done: only when the status column has no Complete group. Tick the options that mean "done".
  • Title: the text column used as the task's name.
  • Person: the people column used as the task's assignee, or None.
  • Preview shows a sample row and how many rows are open and overdue, so you can tell at once whether you picked the right columns.

Changes apply immediately, and ⌘Z undoes them. More on this from the Table's side: Tables in the Schedule. If a column you picked for Date or Done is deleted, the Table leaves the Schedule until you pick another.

Reminders

Lino reminds you with system notifications, even when its window is closed (it keeps running in the menu bar).

  • At the task's time: a task with a due time notifies you at that time. The notification has Done and Tomorrow buttons (moves it to the same time tomorrow). A task for Lino AI also has Start, which hands the task to Lino AI in a chat.
  • Daily summary: once a day, "2 due today · 1 overdue". Nothing is sent on a day with neither.
  • You're reminded of tasks for you, for Lino AI, and for nobody, but not of tasks only for someone else.
  • When Lino is in front, you get an in-app notice instead of a system one.
  • Missed a reminder while the computer slept? Lino sends it when it wakes, if it is less than an hour late.

Clicking a notification opens the Schedule. Turn reminders on or off in Settings → System → Notifications: Schedule reminders and Daily summary (with its time). If nothing appears, allow Lino in your system's notification settings.

Tips

  • Clicking a task row does not jump anywhere. To see a task in context, use Open in Right Panel on its Card or Table row.
  • Lino AI can read your tasks too. Ask "What's left this week?" in the AI panel.
  • ⌘W closes an event you have open in the Schedule.
